When Machines Think, Leaders Discern

by Nikki Barua
Oct 26, 2025

In a world of infinite information, the rarest skill isn't creation. It's the discernment of knowing what’s worth saying.

Content is infinite. Reports, summaries, and slide decks appear faster than you can read them.

But what people crave isn’t more content, but better context. They follow the leader who can say: “This matters. That doesn’t. Here’s why.”

That ability to filter and frame meaning is called Taste.

Your taste is shaped by the totality of your experiences: the wins, the failures, the curiosities that make you whole.

It’s built on your disconnected interests: the music you love, the detours you’ve taken, the ideas that didn’t fit until one day they did. That mosaic gives your voice depth and truth.

AI can imitate your tone, but can't provide your context. It doesn’t know your life, your choices, or your contradictions.

Taste isn’t about knowing everything. It’s about choosing wisely. Your ability to filter noise, choose what matters, and frame meaning is what makes your work exceptional.

AI can be your most efficient teammate, but you are still the editor-in-chief of meaning. Make authenticity your algorithm!

I'd love to hear from you!

THIS WEEK'S INSIGHTS

  • Trends: Collaboration now includes humans and machines working in flow.
  • Tips: Redefine teamwork with AI doing the heavy lift so you focus on meaning.
  • Tools: Prompt frameworks to scale clarity, speed, and storytelling.

TRENDS

30% of work hours in the U.S. could be automated by 2030

According to McKinsey (2024), up to 30% of current work hours in the U.S. could be automated by 2030 through generative AI. As automation takes over routine execution, the most valuable contribution shifts from effort to interpretation.

The leaders who thrive will shift from managing efficiency to designing meaningful collaboration between humans and AI to unlock higher-order thinking, creativity, and innovation.

80% of enterprises will deploy generative AI by 2026 but only 1% are “AI mature”

Gartner forecasts that by 2026, over 80% of enterprises will have generative AI tools in production. Yet, McKinsey’s latest readiness index shows only 1% of organizations feel “AI mature.” The adoption gap is widening because technology is scaling faster than leadership habits.

Early adopters who treat AI as a team capability, not a tech project, will gain a structural advantage. The winners will integrate AI into workflows, governance, and culture, not just pilots and proofs of concept.

65% of employees say AI improves their productivity but only 25% feel confident using it

Recent surveys from PwC and Deloitte highlight a tension: employees are seeing AI’s potential to reduce busywork and surface insights, but lack clarity and trust in how to use it responsibly. Confidence, not capability, is the missing link.

Leaders must model co-creation by showing teams how to use AI safely, strategically, and confidently. The goal isn’t adoption; it’s alignment between human judgment and AI precision.

Time saved by AI will redefine teamwork

When Microsoft’s Work Trend Index measured AI-assisted work, leaders reported saving hours weekly on documentation and analysis. But the real benefit was higher-quality discussions, faster decisions, and reduced burnout.

Productivity metrics must evolve. The next ROI isn’t “hours saved” but rather, it’s energy redirected toward work that requires empathy, insight, and discernment.

TIPS

From Control → Alignment

Old Model: Success meant mastering every variable and minimizing risk

New Model: Success means working in congruence where your focus and values align

Strategy: Prioritize clarity over busyness

Action Step: Review your top three initiatives and ask, “Would I still pursue this if no one else were watching?”

From Effort → Leverage

Old Model: Hard work was the ultimate proof of commitment

New Model: Smart work is the real signal of leadership maturity

Strategy: Use AI and systems to multiply your capacity, not your hours

Action Step: Identify one recurring task that drains your energy and delegate it to a person or to AI this week

From Delegation → Co-Creation

Old Model: Leaders assigned tasks and checked results.

New Model: Leaders design systems where humans and AI create together

Strategy: Treat AI like a team member: onboard it, coach it, and define success clearly

Action Step: Run a one-hour “co-creation sprint” with AI: give it a draft or dataset, then refine its output with your tone and context

TOOLS

These frameworks help you use AI as a real teammate, not just a typing assistant:

Client Recap Prompt

Use it when you need to capture the essence of a client or stakeholder conversation.

The Parts → Purpose → Output framework

Part 1: What was discussed

Part 2: Why it matters

Part 3: What actions are recommended

Prompt: “Create a professional summary of a 30-minute strategy call with a client. Include the main goals of theconversation, the client’s key concerns, what decisions were made, and the recommended next steps. Format it in clear bullet points for a stakeholder update.”

Meeting Summary Prompt

Use it when you want to save hours of note-taking and instantly share takeaways.

The Who → What → When framework

Part 1: Who said what

Part 2: What was decided

Part 3: When action items are due and by whom

Prompt: “Summarize this transcript into a bullet list showing who said what, what was decided, and when actions are due. Keep it under 200 words and use a neutral, professional tone.”

Workflow Automation Prompt

Use it when you’re ready to design smarter team systems that run themselves.

The Trigger → Action → Conditions framework

Part 1: What is the trigger

Part 2: What is the action

Part 3: What are the conditions

Prompt: “Design a workflow that flags emails with ‘urgent’ in the subject, assigns them to the right project board, and notifies the owner in Slack. Skip weekends and prioritize based on tags.”

What unique perspective is authentic to you?

Until next time...stay curious!

Freedom Over Fear: The High-Agency Advantage
Exactly a year ago, I hit rock bottom. My body was exhausted. My mind was numb. My soul felt hollow. By all external measures, I was successful: thriving career, loving family, financial abundance. I should have been joyful, but every morning felt heavier than the one before. It was like pushing a boulder up the same hill every day, only to watch it roll right back down by nightfall. I kept ...
Build for the Century, Not the Quarter
I caught up with an old friend this weekend. We swapped stories about our careers, the wins and the setbacks, the pivots and the lessons.  Then he said something that I haven’t stopped thinking about: “My whole career has been about building skyscrapers.” Skyscrapers rise fast. They dominate the skyline. They send a signal of power and wealth. But they are also temporary. Within a few decade...
When Success Becomes Your Biggest Threat
It’s 2:07am. The house is silent, but I’m wide awake, scrolling. Headline after headline about AI flashes across my phone. I'm simultaneously giddy with excitement about the future and terrified about its implications. Isn't this the most transformative time in modern human history? The future of work is changing faster than any of us expected. New ways of creating, collaborating, and contri...
